Schwenksville Borough Government
In general, Pennsylvania local governments are small operations. There are as many as 2,561 municipalities in Pennsylvania, including 959 Boroughs. Governments in Pennsylvania operate under Codes adopted or approved by the Pennsylvania Legislature. Those Codes include First Class City [Philadephia] Second Class City [Pittsburgh] Third Class City, Boroughs, First Class Townships, Second Class Townships and Home Rule Charters [Communities develop their own charters that are then approved by The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania]. The Borough Code grants powers to the Borough's government and sets forth procedures that the Borough must follow.
Previously, Schwenksville Borough petition the courts to allow for a five member elected council instead of the standard 9 member council. In addition to the elected positions of Councilman, Schwenksville electorate also elect a Mayor, a Tax Collector and three Auditor. The Borough has also adopted a Borough Manager Ordinance and employs both a Borough Manager and a Secretary-Treasurer in accordance with the Borough Code.
There are also many Authorities, Boards, Commissions and Committees (ABC’s) on which residents can get involved and volunteer to serve.
