BOROUGH OF SCHWENKSVILLE, PA

SPECIAL MEETING

APRIL 17, 2008

Council President, Steven Schwenk at 7:30pm, called the Schwenksville Borough Council Meeting April 10, 2008 to order.

Present: Steven Schwenk, Rudy Micsko, Arthur Fairclough, Lee Ann Miller and Mayor Joe Giunta.

 Absent: Ray Yeanish

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:  By the assembly.

Steve Schwenk turned the meeting over to Mayor Giunta.

Mayor Giunta on behalf of Borough council invited Lt. David Buckley from the State Police Skippack Barracks to give his background on his position as the barracks commander.

Lt. Buckley told Council he has a staff of 50, assets are: detectives, drug dog, arson dog, bomb dog, and crime scene processing.  The State Police use the Bethlehem Lab for processing DNA etc.

The State Police now covers Schwenksville when Chief Hoppes is not on duty. They can enforce State laws but not local ordinances.

The State Police have 8 zones with 24 hour coverage.

Response time: calls will be taken be high priority calls first and all calls are tracked.

Liberty House: question was asked who will be in charge of making sure those living there are qualified. Lt Buckley stated that the State Police will be getting these and that Todd Wright who works at the Skippack barracks does the Megan’s Law processing and will have that responsibility.

Local ordinances are handled by the Borough Manager and the Code enforcement Officer.

Mayor Giunta stated that Schwenksville is looking into using the State Police for coverage for economic issues because the Borough right now is funding  a police department which is taking over 1/5 of the entire budget. We are in a situation that we feel we need to get back on our feet financially and become more fiscally responsible to the tax payers because the taxes in the Borough have more than doubled (275%).
