BOROUGH OF SCHWENKSVILLE, PA 

 

COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF MAY 8, 1997

 

The meeting was called to order by President, E. M. (Sue) Kuhn at 7:30 p.m.

 

The secretary called the roll. Present were: E. M. (Sue) Kuhn, Joseph Giunta, Joan Giunta, Bernard McCollum and Mayor, William Clossin. Absent was Chris Kraft.

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: By the assembly.

 

MOTIONED BY BERNARD McCOLLUM AND SECONDED BY JOAN GIUNTA IT WAS VOTED TO DISPENSE WITH THE READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF APRIL 10, AND APRIL 23, 1997. ALL WERE IN FAVOR AND THE MOTION CARRIED.

 

MOTIONED BY BERNARD McCOLLUM AND SECONDED BY JOAN GIUNTA IT WAS VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF APRIL 10, AND APRIL 23, 1997. ALL WERE IN FAVOR AND THE MOTION CARRIED.

 

MOTIONED BY JOSEPH GIUNTA AND SECONDED BY BERNARD McCOLLUM IT WAS VOTED TO APPROVE THE ACCOUNTS PAYABLE REPORT AS PRESENTED. ALL WERE IN FAVOR AND THE MOTION CARRIED.

POLICE REPORT: Chief Frank Holden

 

Traffic Incidents for the Month of April l997: 69. No State Police Report for this Month. Issued 27 tickets for parking in Snow Emergency Routes. Most have been paid. The complete report is on file at the Borough Office.

 

FIRE CHIEF'S REPORT: Nicholas Matregrano

 

Report for April: Number of calls: 5 Firefighters in Service: 44 Time in service: 3 hrs. & l0 min. Distance traveled: ll miles.

 

Transmission had to be rebuilt on Engine 73-2l at the cost of $5,800.00.

 

Fund Raisers coming up: Family Circus and Memorial Day Flea Market and Chili Cook-Off.

 

There is a project at the present time at the firehouse. "Send a Child to the Circus". Any needy child can go. A sponsor buys a ticket for $5.00, sign their name on the back and the fire company will do the rest.

 

 

The fire company is in the process of completing a 6" dry hydrant line from the dock to the rear of the fire station. This will help in the amount of water needed in certain situations without putting a strain on the Borough Water Authority's water system. This is not complete as yet.

 

Fire Tax Account: Joe was wondering about deposits not being listed. According to Nick, fire tax monies are for the necessary items for normal operating items.

 

Ambulance Report: No representative present, No Report

 

SOLICITOR'S REPORT: Robert Brant

 

1) Suburban Cable Agreement: Extension. Bob just received on May 7th and will comment on it at the June meeting.

 

2) Letter from Dave/Sharon Toporowski: Re: Lot 3 on Highland Terrace that is being used improperly by the Slater family. Bob will be conferring with Tom Snyder and after their review they will report to counsel.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

STREETS/ROADS: Bernie McCollum

 

Mt. View Ave. Chris, Tom, and Bernie walked the section in question and there is no doubt that a pipe is needed. Cinders have gone into the gully. More cinders need to be brought in and spread but the whole area needs to be changed. Pipe handling the water is not big enough, only a temporary fix. Tom suggested putting oil down first before the cinders.

 

PROPERTY: Bernie McCollum

 

Borough Hall Office is noticing bugs and recently a bat. Permission was granted to secure the services of an exterminator.

 

FINANCE/PERSONNEL: Joseph Giunta

 

PECO bills have been showing balances, and finance charges will occur. MOTIONED BY JOSEPH GIUNTA AND SECONDED BY JOAN GIUNTA TO PAY THE BILL AT ACCOUNTS PAYABLE TIME. ALL WERE IN FAVOR AND THE MOTION CARRIED.

 

PARK BOARD: Thomas Snyder

 

At the recent Park Board meeting, no one showed up. Skateboard participants were asked to attend meeting and voice their concerns.

 

STREET LIGHTING: Chris Kraft Absent, No Report

 

FIRE COMPANY LIAISON: Joan Giunta No Report

 

POLICE COMMITTEE: Joan Giunta No Report

 

BOROUGH MANAGER: Tom Snyder

 

l) Centennial Street remainder will start in June.

 

2) Painting outside Borough Hall will start in June.

 

3) Retirement Center: Digging out old oil tank.

Gas line problem.

 

4) Jeff Clemens Subdivision moving along. There is a June deadline on the street.

 

5) Parking on Main Street: There will be more parking.

CORRESPONDANCE: Nancy Eppley Nothing to report

 

NEW/OLD BUSINESS: Nothing

 

AUDIENCE: Gael Hahn reminded the board, that getting rid of bats has its limitations. Council is aware, but there are alternatives.
