The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been updating the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) for Montgomery County. These are the maps that depict the floodway, floodplain, and various flood zones for the County’s streams. Once these maps are finalized, the municipalities will be required to update their floodplain ordinance to maintain their standing in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
The draft FEMA maps are available to look at online…at the below link.
The process for reviewing and adopting a revised Floodplain Ordinance will begin in June, 2013. Once a draft ordinance is prepared it will be reviewed by the Schwenksville Planning Commission, the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the Montgomery County Conservation District and FEMA for review and approval prior to adoption by Schwenksville Borough.
